Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the rectum. They are very common and can be silent or cause itching, swelling, bleeding or pain. They can be inside or even pope out of the anus.
Maintaining healthy diet full of fiber promotes normal bowel motility and prevents constipation and hemorrhoids. Stool softeners, fiber supplements and drinking plenty of fluids is important too.
There are creams and suppositories that help to alleviate symptoms of hemorrhoids. Sitz baths with warm water and Epsom salts help a lot too. Thrombosed external hemorrhoids may be opened, and clots drained in the doctor’s office. Internal hemorrhoids can be treated by injections, laser, rubber banding or surgery.
